We are happy to invite all mental health practitioners, marriage and family therapists, career counselors, school counselors, counselor educators, and counselor education students to submit a proposal to present at our upcoming symposium on May 17, 2024.

The Florida Counseling Association seeks proposals for presentations on clinical interventions, professional development, building skills, interventions, and research related to the 2024 Virtual Traumatology Symposium theme of "Intersectionality and Cultural Competence: Working with Special Populations". 

This Symposium aims to provide an opportunity for professional counselors and mental health professionals to come together and share their expertise, insights, and research on how to support trauma survivors, counselors, and communities by honoring the intersectional and cultural identities of the populations we serve.

We welcome proposals for presentations that address the following topics:

  • Clinical interventions and strategies for increasing cultural competence working with intersecting identities and special populations;
  • Professional development for counselors and mental health professionals working with individuals and communities impacted by adverse life events and trauma;
  • Building skills and interventions for enhancing resilience and mental health in diverse populations and communities; and 
  • Research proposals related to intersectionality, cultural competence, special populations, vicarious trauma, vicarious resilience including both qualitative and quantitative studies

Proposals may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Developing and implementing evidence-based interventions for increasing cultural competence working with intersecting identities and special populations
  • Developing and implementing evidence-based interventions for building resilience and mental health in individuals and communities
  • Incorporating trauma-informed care into mental health practice to support individuals and communities in the aftermath of crises and trauma.
  • Cultivating self-care practices for counselors and other mental health professionals to promote their own resilience and well-being
  • Integrating cultural competency and diversity into interventions for building resilience and mental health in diverse populations and communities
  • Identifying and addressing barriers to building resilience and mental health in individuals and communities, including structural and systemic barriers
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of resilience-building interventions and strategies through research studies
Below we have provided the link to the presentation submission form.  Please read the instructions provided therein.  

Upon submission, the information including any additional documents will be reviewed by the FCA Office.  If there are any questions, etc., the Office Manager, Vickie Leeming, will contact you, otherwise, she will send this form along with the accompanying resumes/vitae to the Virtual Traumatology Symposium Committee for review.  If approved, the presentation will be submitted to the Professional and Leadership Development Committee for approval of Florida Board CSW, M&FT, and MHC along with NBCC CEs.

Please note by submitting your presentation you and any co-presenters are agreeing to be available to present IN-PERSON, via ZOOM, any time on Friday May 17, 2024 between 9 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. 

Presentations must be submitted 

by Friday, March 22, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time
