PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
Welcome to the 2009-2010 Florida Counseling Association year. I am excited to get started as your incoming President and I would like to share my vision for this year with you. As we celebrate our 60th conference in beautiful Miami this year, I am humbled that Florida counselors have worked for more than a half a century to represent this amazing profession and the clients and students that we serve. I appreciate all those leaders who have come before me, especially our most recent president Karen Pearson and retiring executive director Jeff Siskind.
This year I want to refocus on the common professional identity that counselors have regardless of where or with whom we work. I believe that the benefits of working together as unified profession are tremendous and I will strive this year to bring together Florida counselors. Together we can work to:
· Improve Floridian’s understanding of counseling and the benefits for clients and students.
· Advocate for professional issues that will strengthen counseling in Florida schools and communities.
· Promote the welfare of Floridians and advocate for the clients and students we serve.
· Bring together counselors from all settings in Florida to learn and grow together.
· Mentor counseling students and prospective students to ensure the continued strength of counseling in Florida.
Please let me know how you would like to work toward this vision of counseling in Florida and your view of our future.
