President's Message

August 1, 2017

Dear FAMFC Members,

These are exciting times for members of the Florida Association of Marriage and Family Counselors. The other day I saw a sign hanging up called “Serve.” The sign read “See the future, Engage and Develop Others, Reinvent Continuously, Value results and relationships, and Embody the values.” As I read this sign, I couldn't help but think of all the people that have volunteered their time to serve.  I believe true leadership involves servanthood and one must have the interests of our members and clients at the heart of their decisions.  What I found is that FAMFC has a wonderful group of people that are committed to serving and getting this done.  The Executive Board, Committee Chairs, and Committee members are working diligently to offer FAMFC members opportunities where we can come together, share our experiences, and gain knowledge to help better serve our clients.

Below is a summary of FAMFC activities currently going on within our division. As you read through them I hope you will consider joining us and/or becoming more involved with FAMFC.

Upcoming Trainings:  Your FAMFC Executive Board will be offering three trainings in the upcoming year.  One focused on Counselor Burnout, Ethics and Technology in Family and Marriage Counseling and a collaborative training with FAMCD and FAGBLTC.  Dates are pending on each of these events.  If you are interested in facilitating a training, please contact Dr. Cherise Murphy at

Call for Emerging Leaders: The FAMFC Emerging Leaders program encourages student and new professional leader’s participation in FAMFC activities. Emerging Leaders receive mentorship, and connect with professional networking opportunities. Emerging Leaders will be selected to serve starting in October 2017 through October 2018. The call for applications is now open! Each Emerging Leader is paired with a member of the FAMFC Executive Board.  Emerging Leaders will be recognized at the FCA Convention in Orlando and will have the opportunity to network with colleagues and seasoned professionals. The deadline to submit is September 29, 2017, and the application can be found on our homepage.

It is an honor to serve as your FAMFC President for the upcoming year, and I look forward to our work together.
