"PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT: DEFINING A SELF AS A FRAMEWORK FOR GROWTH" WEBINAR
DECEMBER 2, 2024 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time
Presented by Guillermo M. Cancio-Bello, Ph.D., MFT
Approved for 1.0 hour of continuing education by the Florida Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling and the National Board of Certified Counselors
The counselor's 'self' exists in both the professional and personal domains. You may function better in aspects of your professional life than your personal one, or vice versa, but the person that walks into each realm is the same. Working on aspects of your functioning in your personal life may very well translate to professional shifts. Counseling is unique in that the self of the counselor is the instrument of therapy. Personal development is essential for professional growth, and the framework of defining, or differentiating, self provides a mindset that minimizes focus on the outcomes of clinical work and career development and puts the focus on what the counselor can attend to, which is gaining an understanding of the matrix of variables that contribute to their functioning in the present, and taking maximum responsibility for themselves and their growth. This presentation will explore the concept of "differentiation of self" as a framework for personal and professional growth, exploring the inevitable connection between the two domains.
