The mental health disparities gender diverse youth face call for counselors to fill a gap by providing gender-affirmative counseling care that is focused on creating a safe space for vulnerability and identity exploration. Due to stigma and discrimination, gender diverse adolescents’ emotional, neurobiological, and physiological health become increasingly vulnerable. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), a third-wave cognitive therapy, emphasizes creating a life of meaning and fulfillment based on personal values. This presentation explores the benefits and implications of adapting and utilizing ACT to enhance psychological flexibility to support gender diverse adolescents’ emotional health.
