Presented by

Professional Job Search Strategist
Over the past two and a half years, the pandemic has wreaked havoc on the U.S. job market, job seekers, employees' morale, and companies' work-from-home policies. It seems like every 4-6 months the pendulum swings the other way. Earlier this year, we had a surplus of job vacancies compared to job seekers. Now, with the potential of a global recession, we're seeing layoffs in technology, hiring freezes in other fields, and rising inflation. Mental health professionals are left to pick up the pieces as clients burn out, desperately apply for new roles, relocate, return to school, and/or try to achieve some sort of work-life balance.
This presentation aims to equip clinicians with basic career counseling knowledge, resources, and techniques to work with these kinds of career crises. We will review the differences between career counseling and career coaching modalities, including their unique advantages and disadvantages. We will also explore a five-part framework to conceptualize clients' concerns, guide career-related counseling sessions, and identify appropriate resources or techniques to move the client forward. Last, but not least, we will discuss how to support and advocate for clients with intersecting identities (e.g. BIPOC, Latinx, women, LGBTQIA+, disabled, neurodivergent, etc.) that have historically been marginalized and underrepresented in the workforce.
