  • Identify common narratives that perpetuate trans-normativity
  • Identify and apply best practices with youth highlighting resilience within a decolonized feminist framework.
  • Apply and model best practices in conducting group work with and advocating for youth.

Presenter:

Lucas DeMonte (he/him/his) is a white queer trans man recently graduated from the University of Florida with his M.Ed./Ed.S. As the current Patient Advocate for the UF Youth Gender Program, he has assisted over 300 Gender Expansive youth and young adults. He has consulted with multiple mental health and community agencies on Trans and Gender Expansive identities and social justice issues. His prior professional experiences include case management with adolescents on probation, serving as a victim advocate, and providing HIV testing and rural outreach in marginalized communities. When he isn’t working or talking to everyone he sees, Lucas spends time tending to his orchids, accidentally trying to read multiple books at a time, and hiking with his dog. You can reach him by mentioning that there’s free food at an event, or more reliably at lucas.demonte@ufl.edu. Lucas will be attending Northern Illinois University in the Fall to pursue his doctorate.
